A long time ago Vedic peoples discovered the universal spirit. Perhaps an invention of other dominant forces, or perhaps something innate.

It is unclear to me whether or not the universal spirit was prerequisite for the existence of the universal musical mind, but the great Bill Evans talked about a sharing of music between all people that occured through the subconscious.

As enlightened monks became one with the universal spirit, some musicians become one with the universal musical mind.

It is a funny comparison – but it is possible to compare the Christian and the Buddhist musician – the Christian musician becoming one with the universal musical mind all at once and the buddhist musician becoming one slowly over a long period of time.

The difficulty for the buddhist musician would the long suffering that occurs between the initial stream2-entry and a full integration.

Perhaps however they are less content than the buddhist, though also more successful.

It is interesting to consider if it is possible to enter something like the universal spirit or universal musical mind without some kind of religious faith. As the antithesis to religious faith is choice-making, which is antithetical to the linearity of things like stream and dao. Though I have heard David Hume argue religion is not necessary for morality, perhaps it is necessary for running towards death. And this is exactly what real streams do!

The non-musical body therefore is perhaps an attempt to escape death via choice making.

Though choice-making provides a degree of satisfaction associated with a sense of preservation of self, reputation, or self-esteem. In my view it is inferior to the satisfaction of religious faith, especially when that faith leads to integration with, allegedly the universal spirit, and to my knowledge the universal musical mind.

There are problems in the modern world. In my view much of this centers around a lack of dominance of the universal musical mind – the reason jazz died, and the reason rap has to be dominant.

There is also a lack of morality, which in my view is the same problem. We live in a time where science is revered and though this certainly provides tremendous benefit to us all, science without a song is painful for those that are one or becoming one with music.

I think it’s painful too for those that are without music, but it provides a sense of safety.

The sad thing for me is that so many feel safe with their science, but feel awkward singing, dancing, or expressing themselves the way they want to.

Is universality necessary for satisfactory self-expression? Perhaps it is for most. The true believers in solipsism might be exempt.

Is self-expression necessary for satisfaction? I think yes. This is what saddens me about science is that although it is a tower, it denies what it deems incorrect. This is the crux of choice-making! Denying what is seen to be false! Here we see clearly the antithetical nature of religion and science.

Though the traditional religions also deny much, on a moral basis, rather than a factual one. I think this happens when people follow religious leaders – they attempt to make choices that stay on their leaders path.

So what is the choice-making of science? Which leader is being followed? I do not know, but I think it highly plausible it is still Socrates that set the project in motion oh so long ago. That is why we revere him to this day!

Fun to think who may have set the universal spirit and universal musical mind motion.
